Pakistan Vs Bangladesh: Test Series Result

Bangladesh’s top six made significant contributions to lead their team to a historic 2-0 clean-up in the Test series against Pakistan. Starting Day 5 of the second Test in Rawalpindi at 42/0, Bangladesh pursuing 185 for success hit the mark in the second session with the seasoned combination of Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan over the line. Bangladesh’s second overseas series triumph ( minimum two matches in a series), having first faced West Indies (2-0) back in 2009. Bangladesh has never won a series against Pakistan before.

Bangladesh started on the last day with Shadman Islam’s assured punch for a boundary off Mohammad Ali, off the second ball. The Pakistan pacers, meantime, had openers on alert and bowled terrific lines. Not selected by the host team as they lacked appeal, there were some play-through misses and a bottom edge off Zakir Hasan’s bat in Mohammad Ali’s over. Bangladesh’s first fifty-plus opening stand since December 2022 was raised by the openers extending their cooperation past fifty. Zakir hit a well-crafted 40, but Mir Hamza got one to hold the line, beat the outside edge, and have him bowled, thereby cutting off his outing.

Run-scoring was not easy for the Bangladesh hitters from Pakistan’s disciplined bowling. Shadman knocked away a full delivery on the pads from Hamza for a four following three consecutive maidens. Agha Salman also had a lucky break in Hamza’s following over as he dropped a hard chance diving to his left from second slip. Shadman sent away a short ball beyond cover for another four in the same over. But he had to leave after trying to drive a Khurram Shahzad delivery with a catch at mid-off.

Good cooperation between Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque followed to keep Bangladesh on target in the pursuit. From Mominul, an edgy boundary and some well-timed fours by Najmul produced Bangladesh’s goal below 100. Najmul and Mominul started slowly but developed confidence and the older ball helped also as they gathered limits. After a miscued shot, Najmul even charged Hamza and escaped with three runs. With 80 runs arriving in the first session from 27 overs, the third wicket duo stretched over 50, bringing the equation down to 63 at Lunch.

Perhaps expecting some rain, the groundsmen were preparing the covers ready outside the boundary ropes at the beginning of the second session. Pakistan, however, started in neat form as Salman and Hamza bowl a few maidens. Then Najmul gave some urgency with reversing-swept four off Salman. But he dropped shortly after, passing a ball to short leg, thereby ending a 57-run second wicket partnership. Mominul cut away a short ball in the same over, and Rahim was active from the start of his innings picking up singles and twos, reducing the target below 50. Hamza located Mominul’s bat’s outside edge, but the ball passed the empty second slip area for a four.

Pakistan checked twice in Abrar Ahmed’s over but Rahim survived both times; replays show a spike when he tried to sweep. Pakistan tightened it even as Bangladesh hit 150, darkening the overhead conditions somewhat. As Abrar collected his first wicket of the match, Mominul (34) miscued to mid off, trying to press the tempo. At the beginning of his innings, Shakib was disturbed; however, as Bangladesh drew near, the left-handed player calmed down and rotated the strike with Rahim. Shakib struck Abrar for a straight six and twice cautioned him for entering the pitch’s danger zone. Rahim top-edged a pull-off Ali for a boundary after a few singles, off Abrar, as the Bangladesh dressing room erupted in cheers. Shakib then struck the winning boundary.

Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz set up Bangladesh’s triumph on Days 2 and 3. Bangladesh sent Pakistan in to bat on Day 2 and watched them start nicely with Shan Masood and Saim Ayub getting fifties after the play of the first day was totally rained out. Though Salman scored a fifty, Bangladesh responded with frequent wickets, therefore restricting Pakistan to 274 in their first essay. With Shahzad rampaging through the batting order and Bangladesh down to 26/6, their response started badly.

But Litton’s 138 and his 165-run seventh-wicket partnership with Mehidy (78) enabled Bangladesh to finish near to Pakistan’s total as the hosts gained a lead of 12. Hasan Mahmud’s maiden five-wicket haul and a career-best 4 for 44 helped Bangladesh step up with the ball magnificently on Day 4 knocking Pakistan out for 172. Bangladesh was out the blocks fast in the later half of Day 4, and Zakir performed well. But poor light and rain brought the penultimate day an early end. On the last day, Bangladesh kept one eye toward the heavens, expecting Tuesday to be stormy. The top order arrived at the party, though, and the weather gods were gracious enough to keep the rain away, allowing a clinical Bangladesh triumph.
